What would it be like to know that by telling others about Jesus, you were essentially signing your death warrant? Would you take the risk?

Zahra (not her real name), a Christian woman in Yemen, takes those risks regularly to reach women who don't know Jesus.

Despite the dangers, Zahra chose to share her account on camera. We met her in a country outside Yemen, and her face and voice have been hidden to protect her identity.

Watch Zahra's story:

Zahra serves as the leader of a women's ministry in Yemen. She is pioneering this ministry and is one of only a handful of people reaching out to Yemeni women. Her experiences of persecution for following Jesus have given her the empathy and understanding to deeply touch the lives of the women she reaches. Zahra disciples several women, meeting them face-to-face and creating a safe space for them to deepen their faith.

Zahra knows she is followed by secret police. "We live among wolves, and we know that," she explains. "We know that very well."

Sharing the gospel with a Yemeni woman is very difficult because she cannot freely go out of her house. Instead, Zahra has to take the dangerous step and go into a woman's home to tell her about Jesus.

"That is where God has called me," she says. "I know that sometimes when I enter a house, I might not come back out. I have chosen this way, and I know of the trials that come alongside this decision. Jesus took my pain, my suffering and my guilt; He carried His cross, and now it is my turn to carry the cross and continue the journey."

Although she leads this ministry at great risk, witnessing the spiritual growth of these women over time has not only been a source of great joy for Zahra but has also reinforced her belief in her calling.

"I believe God has put me in this place to impact the lives of these women," she says. "To bring them hope, and to reflect the true light of Christ amidst the horrific situation we are all living in."

Zahra took gigantic leaps of faith to talk with us. But she was determined to make sure Christians all over the world knew how much she was thankful for their support for her ministry, as well as how much prayer means to her.

"I know that telling my story is very risky, and sometimes I want to back away," she says. "But I'm sharing it with you because I wish I could share the gospel with every woman in Yemen. Pray for me, help me reach every girl and woman so they can be saved by Jesus.

"I cannot do this alone."
